The way it’s been a long week, and it’s only Monday (or Tuesday — depending on your time zone and what time this sends)? I’m sure some of you totally understand this feeling. Especially those of you who work at colleges and universities — as I’m sure you’re preparing to update some of the classroom tech once the students leave for winter break. I know the end of the year is usually when everyone winds down, but I don’t know. It feels more like a mad dash to finish tasks, quick get everything in, develop all the ideas, plant seeds for 2024, right before we take off for the holidays.

There it is, always on stage. Standing on a podium for so long and so often, some of the users even call it a podium. But it’s not a podium, it’s a lectern. For years it was made of wood, a dumb block. It stood in front of us in church, at military ceremonies, in university lectures, in conference halls, at our courts of law and at press conferences. While the users have not changed, the potential uses of a lectern have multiplied.
