Good evening, #AVtweeps. Hope you’re all having an excellent July. The columns I have for you this time are two: the first is on the flat panel and front projection markets — good plan to keep our eye on those as we continue in 2023.
The second column I’m including is from Leonard Suskin — and it’s about what he saw/learned at InfoComm. In this blog, he writes about the different standards for AV-over-IP. Check it out!
The flat panel and front projection markets continue to battle a string of challenges, as Q1 of 2023 saw substantial declines in volume and value across both markets. The worldwide flat panel market volume saw losses at -8% YoY, with value dipping by -19%. For front projection, market volume fell -10.4% in CY 2023 Q1, with value reporting a similar trend at -9.7%.
Everyone who creates a standard has a vision for why they are doing so, for what problem it solves, for how it fits into the larger world. Nowhere does this appear more true than in the world of AV-over-IP, which has become a maze of walled gardens. This morning I met not one, but two groups attempting to create unity via different paths. The groups are the Alliance for IP Media Solutions, or AIMS and Audinate.
