Plano, TX – January 2024… Known for bringing a diverse set of skills, knowledge, experience, and passion to live event production, Time Matters Entertainment takes an innovative approach to entertainment technology. As part of the firm’s commitment to this business model, the company recently took delivery of a sizeable quantity of loudspeakers drawn from the catalog of EDC Acoustics.
EDC Acoustics’ approach to sound reinforcement is unique. The company manufactures what it identifies as the world’s first Plane Array loudspeaker system, with computer controlled 3-Dimensional wavefront adaptation and control. Except for the SS-3 and SS-1 subwoofers, the other loudspeaker enclosures incorporate a combination of high and low frequency transducers, along with power amplification and DSP control for a very balanced and modular approach to loudspeaker design. The result is an extremely versatile system that can address a wide range of venues, and this is precisely what led Taylor Hobart, owner of Time Matters Entertainment to invest in EDC Acoustics.
“Our company handles a lot of high end social and corporate meetings as part of our live events business,” Hobart explained. “To address the variety of projects we typically handle, we purchased 27 EDC Acoustics SQ-90 enclosures, 12 SC-30 enclosures, 4 SC-60 enclosures and 24 SS-3 subwoofers.”
When queried about his reasoning for choosing EDC Acoustics, Hobart offered the following thoughts, “EDC is perfect for events where speech intelligibility is important. Clients notice the loudspeakers’ high degree of intelligibility without us even asking. The ability to steer the tops and subs has given us the ability to do things we couldn’t even dream of before. Every instrument and vocal is crystal clear. Overall, it sounds like you’re right next to the musician. Simply put: EDC brings high-fi to large spaces.”
Hobart described a recent project and how the company’s new EDC Acoustics loudspeakers helped them address what would have been challenging in terms of sound reinforcement. “We have a local park with an event stage,” Hobart explained, “and in the past, it’s been quite a struggle keeping the sound inside the park without bothering the surrounding offices and high-rise condominiums. With their previous rig, they had to enforce an 85dB limit on all events. We introduced them to EDC, showed them how this equipment could address this matter, and it solved their issues.”
“With the EDC system,” Hobart added, “we created uniform coverage from front to back of the venue and steered the beam so that it stayed on the lawn. We can steer up to 120 degrees, both horizontally and vertically. On the edge of the beam, it drops off 21dB with 3 or more tops, -18dB with 2 tops. When you are in the beam, you hear the power and feel it. When you are outside of the beam, the sound is clear and intelligible but drops in dB level and energy so as not to be a problem.”
Hobart has been equally impressed with the DSP capabilities the system offers, “The EDC Acoustics Rapid app on IOS has been key to us being able to deploy this system quickly using the virtual beam tuning and configuration capabilities. With this app, we can tune a system once physically configured quickly. Nothing else on the market does that. Even the most complex steering takes just hours. Typically, we are tuned in about 45 minutes on a system with an L/R cluster and 2 delays.”
With electronic equipment, questions inevitably arise, so responsive support services are crucial to keeping projects on schedule. Here, too, Hobart has been impressed with EDC Acoustics. “EDC Acoustics products offer cutting edge technology with a high level of dependability and great support,” he said. “We have a local rep who helps us address any issues we might encounter, and the owner of EDC Acoustics has been very responsive to our questions and clearly cares both about us and his company’s product. It’s been a very positive experience.”
Prior to shifting his focus back to the business of the day, Hobart offered these parting thoughts, “We are extremely pleased with our EDC Acoustics equipment. The ease and flexibility it provides enables us to configure excellent sounding systems more efficiently than ever before. Likewise, our customers have been very open to the new technology these loudspeakers encompass with the hopes that it improves their event by facilitating better intelligibility and control. Bottom line, our investment in EDC Acoustics has been a positive experience for all who encounter these systems.”
