Welcome back to our newsletter, European readers! I’m about to join you all across the pond in a few short hours (I’m going on holiday in London), but I still wanted to make sure you have the news in your inboxes.
First, nominations are open for our 2023 rAVe Readers’ Choice Awards. It is important to us that you share your voice with us by nominating, even if it’s only for a few categories.
Also, I hope you read Scott Tiner’s latest column on the many possibilities for AI in the AV world. I don’t think we are nearing the end of this conversation — it’s only the beginning!
Finally, check out Maggie McIntyre’s wrap-up of ProAV Day during LAVNCH WEEK 7. It was our most successful LAVNCH WEEK ever, and I hope you’ll read through and even watch some sessions on demand.
Talk Soon! xx (See? I’m writing like a European already and I’m not even on holiday yet.)
With this column, I want to focus more on the concept of artificial intelligence in general and what the future is going to look like. Let’s start with a definition of artificial intelligence. The Oxford Dictionary defines artificial intelligence as “the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.” In AV, the concept of something that “normally requires human intelligence” is where we will find the power.
I have a theory… As a woman, there is an unspoken role to follow where other women flock, it guarantees the space is safe and accepting. So, when I first met the team at Control Concepts and interviewed with three other women, I knew that I had found where I wanted to start my career in the AV industry. I came to find out that the team is composed of almost half women, which proved my hypothesis.
The last day of LAVNCH WEEK has arrived, and today we talked all about ProAV. To finish out the week, we had an amazing lineup of speakers and panels to deliver their wisdom right to your ears and screen. Steph and Megan kicked off the day with a reminder that if you have missed any sessions, everything is available on demand so you can find all the fascinating content from LAVNCH WEEK there (including content from ProAV Day!).
