How’s it going, #AVtweeps? I was just talking in a meeting the other day about how nice the post-InfoComm summer is, but now we’re getting back into the swing of things because CEDIA Expo is on the way! Do you have any big projects coming up?

Carter Music writes about the challenges of updating technology in traditional house-of-worship spaces. By traditional, he means the high-ceiling, ultra-echoey, lots-of-natural-light spaces. While these are beautiful, it can be difficult to update the AV because of budgets, structural challenges and more. In this column, Carter writes about some of these challenges he’s seen, as well as products he’s found that help!

Scott Tiner’s column is all about the supply chain. Will these challenges change AV for good? Will a company struggling to build its product because of an unstable supply chain ever catch up?

+ Tech Updates in Traditional HOW Spaces: The Challenges [Carter Music]

As time and technology have progressed, styles and trends have shifted in the house-of-worship world just as they have in the rest of it. In the HOW market, these shifts are especially difficult to reconcile — HOWs often have limited resources as well as significant ties to traditional elements. A prime example of this can be found in architectural designs. In a secular concert space, when a facility no longer meets the needs of the technological demands or style, things can be renovated or replaced.

What this thread got me thinking today, however, is about how companies are surviving this time period. From all the discussions I have with my peers, it feels like manufacturers are able to provide about 25% of what we would be getting prior to March 2020. Most troubling in my mind though is the catch-22 in which manufacturers find themselves. If a company is struggling to build its product because its supply chain is unstable, when will that ever catch up?
